Newly appointed Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho takes a fumbling Spurs side to the London Stadium for Saturday’s lunch time kick off, looking to arrest a dire run of league results.
Premier League 2019/2020
Venue: London Stadium
Date : Saturday, 23rd November 2019
Kick-off : 13:30 PM UK time.
TV channel : Sky Sports
Mourinho will be in the Tottenham dug out for the first time ever come Saturday as Tottenham who are winless in their last five league games travel to East London in search of a victory which have not been easy to come by on the road.
“I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters”, the Portuguese said after his appointment on Wednesday morning. “The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
Quite how he would set about making the best of the ‘quality’ remains to be seen though the Lilywhites for all their deficiencies this season, can be a force to reckon with when they really get going.
That said, it will not precisely be all plain-sailing against West Ham, a team equally struggling to keep their heads above waters. Since beating Manchester United in September, the Hammers have not managed a win in any of their subsequent seven games in all tournaments(D2, L5) and are perched just two places above the relegation zone coming into this one.
Manuel Pellegrini knows he has to find a way of reversing his team’s fortunes, and fast particularly with games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool coming up in the next couple of weeks, and a third consecutive defeat is the last thing they will be happy to suffer here.
There are no new injury worries for West Ham, aside the little fact that Lukasz Fabianski is still out, so Roberto Jimenez is expected to continue in between the sticks.
Aside Jack Wilshere, Michail Antonio and Mark Noble have both been passed fit to be involved for this clash but Manuel Lanzini remains a longer term absentee.
Mourinho will not be able to call on the services of Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen on his first assignment for Spurs, as the duo are still out with injury.
Erik Lamela (thigh) is also a doubt and the Portuguese might not be tempted to risk him.
Head to Head:
This will be the 154th meeting between the two teams, with Tottenham clear favourites in that department with 65 wins to West Ham’s 51. 37 games had ended in draws.
West Ham are struggling at the moment after a comfortable start to their season. They have lost four of their last five league games to the likes of Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Everton and Burnley.
West Ham’s last five games in all competitions (LLDLL)
Tottenham on their part, are not experiencing the best of returns, of which led to the axing of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine did not manage a league victory in his last five games in charge.
Tottenham’s last five games in all competitions (WLDWD)
West Ham have conceded at least twice in five of their last six topflight games.
Tottenham are winless in their last twelve Premier League games on the road (D3, L9).
Tottenham will be fired up to deliver a winning welcome shot for their new manager here, and at a price of 17/20 looks decent enough to jump on. The visitors have won on the last two occasions they had played at the London Stadium, so they could be worth backing again.
Manchester City are the only visiting side to have managed a clean sheet at the London Stadium so far so it could be clever pick to make value from the both team to score/Tottenham to win market option. Punters can pick that up at a 21/10 price.
