Fortuna Dusseldorf are in dire need of a positive result in order to move into the play-offs, and it is Union who are assured of their own safety that stand in their way in this final round of the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season.

Bundesliga 2019/2020 season
Date: Saturday June 27
Kick-off: 14:30
Venue: Stadion An der Alten Försterei

Union rallied round to pick seven points from their last four league games, a run of results which proved efficient in helping them climb away from danger. Urs Fischer and his side will now aim to finish their season on a high after the heavy 4-0 loss to Hoffenheim last weekend.

They earned victories over the likes of Paderborn and FC Köln to move on to 38 points for the season, meaning neither of the bottom three can match that tally from this last round of games.

For Fortuna, surviving the drop outrightly is beyond them, but a two-legged shot at redemption against Germany’s second tier third-placed team is theirs to lose.

With their two-point cushion and a marginally superior goal difference on the automatic drop zones, Die Flingeraner can only slip through the net if Werder Bremen beat Köln at home and they lose, or if they fail to take maximum points and Werder go on to triumph by a four-goal margin.

They are however, winless in five games,
losing twice and have the worst away record in the Bundesliga with just
two wins from 16 trips all season. It’s poised to be an interesting final moment in the bottom end of the Bundesliga standings, but where does it leave us in the betting?

Team news

Union Berlin:

Sebastian Andersson serves a mandatory one-match suspension for accumulation of five yellow cards.

Fischer may stick with the bulk of the side that surprisingly pulled off top-flight survival for another season.

Julian Ryerson, Akaki Gogia and Christopher Lenz are all ruled out with injuries for the host.

Fortuna Dusseldorf

For Fortuna, the trio of Zack Steffen, Oliver Fink and Aymen Barkok are unavailable for the trip to Berlin.

Head to Head

In eight competitive meetings between these two sides, Fortuna Dusseldorf have accrued four wins to Union Berlin’s two while two games have ended as draws. Fortuna were 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture.

Betting tips

Fortuna Duesseldorf are winless in 14 of their last 15 away league matches, and it is hard to see how they fashion a win from this game, despite needing one or at least matching Werder’s result in order to have another chance at survival with the play-offs. A point for both sides from a possible draw will be a fair result for them after a thoroughly demanding season, but the jury is out on if a point will be enough for the visitors. BetClever prices a fulltime draw at odds of 11/4, and we think this should be the play here, between two sides almost difficult to split.

Fortuna’s Rouwen Hennings is 21/20 to score anytime here. The German already has 15 to his name this season, and will look to finish off what has been an impressive individual campaign on a high.
