Home » Schalke vs. Hoffenheim Match Preview and Betting Tips

David Wagner’s Schalke 04 will play host this Saturday to a Hoffenheim side looking to take the last available European qualification spot for next season.

The 6th placed hosts who have been in a poor run of form having lost three on the bounce in all competition will be looking to pick up all three points and maintain their position in the table. The Gelsenkirchen-based team are just two points and two places off their visitors who have accumulated 34 points after 24 games.

Hoffenheim themselves have also been on a patchy run of form and will be looking to take all three points and leapfrog their hosts and take the last European spot available.

Plagued by a porous defense which has shipped in 14 goals in the last five matches, Alfred Schreuder’s side will be hoping Benito Raman and co. do not find their shooting range this weekend.

Team News

David Wagner will be without the services of Spanish midfielder Omar Mascarell who has been absent since the 5:0 loss to Leipzig after picking up a groin injury. German midfielder Daniel Caligiuri remains sidelined with a knee injury, while young defender Juan Miranda misses out through a calf injury.

Benjamin Stambouli (knee) and Sallif Sane (calf) remain long term absentees.

Meanwhile, the visitors are without striker Ishak Belfodil and Armenian forwaed Sargis Adamyan for the match. Munas Dabbur also misses out after picking up a knee injury.

Head to Head

The visitors have been victorious in three of the last five meetings between both sides, winning the reverse fixture 2-nil.

Team Form

Schalke will hope to record just their first win in the league this year. Meanwhile the visitors are chasing their second win in six league games.

Schalke 04 last five games in all competitions: LLLDD

Hoffenheim last five matches in all competitions: LDLLL

Betting Preview

David Wagner’s toothless side remain without a goal in their last three matches in all competition, scoring only once in the last five. They also remain without a first half goal in last seven league matches.

On the other end of the pitch, their last three games have seen them concede an average of 4.33 goals.

However, in the last 10 Bundesliga home games, they have a decent record having lost just one of those games (W4, D5, L1).

Hoffenheim’s form meanwhile doesn’t inspire confidence as they continue to ride their luck this season with a porous defense that has conceded 3 plus goals in three of the last five matches.

Their chastening loss to Bayern last time out means they have taken just one point from the last 12 available.

However, over a five game period in the league, they have won two and lost two, with the other ending in a draw.

If Hoffenheim are to win this tie, expect some late goals as they average 2.00 goals beyond the hour mark across the two league games they have won in the last five.

Suggested Bets

Both teams to score @ 4/7

Schalke to win @ 13/10

Under 2.5 goals @ 5/4
