Atletico Madrid travel to Eibar as they look to bounce back from disappointment in the Spanish Super Cup by returning to winning ways.
Eibar v Atletico Madrid – La Liga
Venue: Ipurua Municipal Stadium
Kick Off: 20:00
TV Channel: La Liga TV
Eibar host third place Atletico Madrid on Saturday night as Diego Simeone’s side look to continue their impressive domestic form, and try to inflict more pain on relegation threatened Eibar.
Both sides are ravaged by injury, and goals have been hard to come by despite their impressive form for Atletico Madrid, and if they had been more clinical in front of goal, they would be top of the league on expected points. Top scorer is ex-Chelsea man Alvaro Morata on seven goals, and the load on the Spanish striker has been increased with an injury to Diego Costa, and a struggling Joao Felix. However, up against an open, expansive Eibar side, Atletico will be confident of opening up Eibar on the counter attack, particularly with Felix and Angel Correa’s quick, attacking talents.
Eibar’s poor form is certainly a cause for concern, and with only one league win in six, they will be looking over the shoulder at the drop. A difficult task awaits them as they come up against a defence which is only statistically bettered by Real Madrid on expected goals against, so working an opening against the Spanish giants will be tough.
Defensive injuries for Eibar will increase the pressure further, and it could be a long evening for the strugglers, as Atletico look to build upon their impressive form and reinforce their title credentials.
Eibar are without the suspended Paulo Oliveira, whilst Ivan Ramis, Anaitz Arbilla, Kike Garcia, Gonzalo Escalante and Pape Diop are all doubtful.
Sime Vrsaljko, Diego Costa, Thomas Lemar and Koke are all out for Atletico, whilst Jose Gimenez is a doubt.
Head to Head:
Eibar Wins: 0
Atletico Madrid Wins: 10
Eibar have failed to score in 5 of their last 7 matches
Atletico are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 games
Alvaro Morata is top scorer for Atletico with 7 goals; Fabian Orellana has 4 for Eibar
Eibar 16th / L L D W L
Atletico Madrid 3rd / L D W W W
Atletico Madrid are immediately the stand out option at 4/5 to win, especially when considering the form and tactics employed by both sides. With Eibar struggling for goals, the strong Madrid defence will fancy their chances of shutting out the opposition, whilst Eibar are susceptible to the counter attack. Correa and Felix will be well equipped to make the most of this, whilst Morata will occupy the centre backs up top. Priced at 21/10, Felix is the stand out option on the goalscoring markets, and if the Portuguese forward starts, he is well suited to making them pay.
