Kick-off: 14: 00 UK time
Venue: Old Trafford

Manchester United made light work of Netherlands opponents AZ Alkmaar 4-0 in the Europa league on Thursday to complete a hat trick of victories in the space of eight days for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who has seemingly got his side’s mojo working again, and perhaps just at the crucial moment of the campaign.

Tottenham and Manchester City fell within that span, two sides who boast unarguably the best managers in the English topflight, and Solksjaer will be confident of outfoxing Duncan Ferguson, placed on interim charge following the sacking of Marco Silva but masterminded an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea for the Merseyside Blues last time out.

That victory was Everton’s first this month after earlier losing thrice on the bounce, as Ferguson galvanised his troops in the emotional game which saw Richarlison strike and Dominic Calvert-Lewin add a second half brace.

”I don’t know if I can go through
this again to be honest with you,’
Ferguson was quoted as saying after the game. ”I need my fitness level up that’s for sure, the way I ran up and down the touchline.”

They could however, be running into a stone wall in Manchester, as they have not won any of the last five trips they have made to Old Trafford, losing four times instead.

Team news

Manchester United

Paul Pogba remains sidelined for the Red Devils, and Solksjaer will otherwise have the loyalty of his fit troops that have helped the team’s resurgence.

Luke Shaw who limped off in the derby win will be assessed alongside Jesse Lingard who was absent from training in midweek.

Theo Walcott and Lucas Digne came off injured against Chelsea and are doubts for this game. Ferguson could yet miss the services of no less than six important members of his team here.

Head to head

This will mark the 200th meeting between these two sides in all competitions. United have won a larger proportion of those meetings, 88 in total to Everton’s 67. Drawn games stand at 44.

Betting preview

This clash should see an open, free flowing game, and goals are a surety. With Everton having a renaissance of some sort following last weekend’s big win at Chelsea, I expect them to come at their opponents at some point in the game so backing both teams to score/Manchester United’s win stands with appeal at 13/5. Everton were surprise 4-0 winners the last time these two met, after all and also got on the score board in the last clash at this ground.

Marcus Rashford has opened the scoring in both of Manchester United’s 2-1 league wins over Tottenham and Manchester City and is worthy of a punt to break the deadlock yet again here at 4/1.
