After an eventful Europa League game which secured their passage to the next round on Thursday, Manchester United will return to the Theatre of Dreams looking to improve on the loss to Bournemouth and its a plucky Brighton side that stand in their way.

: Old Trafford

Kick-off : 15:00 PM UK time.

Manchester United secured a routine victory over Partizan Belgrade in their last European outing here, courtesy of goals from Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. That marked the first time they managed to score multiple goals at Old Trafford in a single game since the opening weekend of the season.

The win over the Serbian visitors saw some good offensive combinations upfront for the Red Devils attacking trio, something that have been severely lacking in recent times at these grounds and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be thrilled to have his men in the best of form going into this one.

However, the hosts sit in mid table after their loss last weekend will be eager to win more games and edge further up the standings, but that won’t come easy against Brighton that have been solid for much of this season.

Graham Potter’s side face the sternest of tests starting from this one, as their next three games will see them play Leicester City, Liverpool and Arsenal and it is important they approach these games with every seriousness or face the prospect of sliding down the table after a good start.

The Seagulls have already claimed big wins over Tottenham and Everton in recent weeks, and are a crafty side who are versed in exploiting any lapses and defensive weaknesses displayed by any team they face.

Team News

Ashley Young is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the Premier League campaign last week, which could see youngster Brandon Williams make his full league debut at left-back for United.

Scott McTominay is the latest injury doubt for Solksjaer after he went off with a suspected ankle injury against Partizan, bearing in mind that Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are still unavailable.

Should Victor Lindelof who sat out the win on Thursday fail to feature here, Marcos Rojo is expected to come into the side.

For Brighton, Adam Webster who was stretchered off in the victory over Norwich last week with an ankle injury joins Bernardo and Jose Izquierdo on the sidelines.

Head to head

Manchester United and Brighton have met 21 times in the past, and it is the hosts that have a far superior advantage, with 13 wins.

Brighton have only managed three victories from that time and none of them had been at Old Trafford. They fell 2-1 the last time they visited the ground.

Team form

United have taken only 13 points from 11 league games – their lowest total at this stage of a season for 33 years, which is incredibly poor by their standards.

But with four wins from their last five games in all tournaments, they will be in buoyant mood approaching this one.

Brighton have won three of their last four league matches but all of those were achieved on home soil. On the road, Brighton are winless in four games and have failed to score in three of those.

Betting preview

Both teams look to find joy in scoring goals at the moment even if they might always get the wins to back it. The hosts have scored in all but one of their last six games while Brighton, on their part have found the net nine times in their last four games so it will be expected that goals will be guaranteed from this one, with the over 2.5 goals set at 1/1.

Man United are supposedly favourites here, and are expected to pick up their fourth league win of the season. It ended 2-1 in their favour here the last time both sides faced off, and should that scoreline suffice again, punters can expect to make great value with that scoreline priced at a tantalizing 17/2.
