Chelsea face their biggest task under new manager Maurizio Sarri as the Blues take on a devastating Liverpool side in the first of the two games in four days.
Match: Liverpool v Chelsea
Competition: Carabao Cup
Date: Wednesday, 26 September 2018
Kick Off: 7:45 PM BST
TV Channel: Sky Sports Main Event, Coverage starts at 7pm
Liverpool are off to a flying start winning all six of their league games and currently sit on top of the table. Meanwhile at Chelsea, the players re still adapting to Sarri’s tactaics as they were left frustrated in the 0-0 draw against West Ham.
Liverpool and Chelsea both play in a similar 4-3-3 formation while shifting to a 4-4-2/4-5-1 formation defensively.
Klopp’s Liverpool play high pressing football trying to win the ball higher up the pitch. With the frightening pace of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in the wings, Liverpool are lethal on counter-attacks.
Sarri’s Chelsea on the other hand, play much more possession based football with their Regista, Jorginho, dictating the tempo of the game. There have been some glimpses of Sarriball with quick one-touch passing and the 3rd man making the runs forward, but the Blues are yet to reach their full potential.
Simon Mignolet is set for his first start of this Season while Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho might also be handed opportunities.
Virgil van Dijk remains doubtful for this clash as he’s recovering from a rib injury.
Dejan Lovren and Dominic Solanke are fit for Wednesday’s clash and could make the bench.
Adam Lallana and Divock Origi are out with injuries.
Chances may pop-up for youngsters like Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi as Gianfranco Zola confirmed they are in contention for the clash at Anfield.
Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill are in line to start at the back as David Luiz is likely to be rested.
Antonio Rüdiger, Ruben Loftus-cheek and Pedro are out with slight injuries.

Liverpool and Chelsea face each other on Wednesday night in their first, and least important, meeting in the space of four days. Expect to see changes made to both teams in this one, with fringe players getting the chance to prove their worth. One of those, former Chelsea star Daniel Sturridge, will get his chance to lead the Liverpool line and has shown enough in recent appearances to lead us to believe he can bag a goal in this one. His re-emergence as a Premier League striker could really help Liverpool’s title bid. The Reds have addressed their defensive issues from past seasons and look comfortable in defence, something we haven’t said about them for a while. They have picked up four clean sheets from their first six league games and with Chelsea likely to be lacking the creative talents of Eden Hazard, Liverpool can pick up another clean sheet here. With Daniel Sturridge in attack and the creative force of Xherdan Shaqiri expected to be in behind, Liverpool have enough to score multiple times in this game and combining that with their hopes of a clean sheet we are backing them to win the game 2-0.
