Ceballos set for a permanent Arsenal move?

Arsenal are hoping to make Dani Ceballos’ loan deal from Real Madrid permanent this summer, after being hugely impressed by his early performances at the Emirates.

The young Spaniard received a rousing ovation from the Arsenal faithful after his home debut against Burnley, in a game where he assisted both goals as his side won 2-1, and has continued to impress ever since.

Ceballos has been rotated in and out of the team by Unai Emery over the past few weeks, which has come as something of a surprise to Arsenal fans, who believe his performances merit a starting place. The feeling inside the club, though, is that whilst Ceballos has been technically superb, he has struggled with the physicality and tempo of the Premier League. I can only agree with their assessment, given the fact it looked like his race was already run after 45 minutes of chasing the ball at Anfield a few weeks ago. By the time he was substituted in the 60th minute, it looked like he was about ready to collapse.

Emery and his coaching staff believe this will not be a permanent issue, though, and they are working hard to get him up to a level where he can consistently start games and see out the full 90 minutes. You have to imagine that, once he reaches the peak of his fitness, there will be very few better midfielders in his position in the Premier League.

So, what is Real Madrid’s stance on this potential deal?

Given the fact that both Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane are absolutely desperate to sign Manchester United talisman Paul Pogba, and may even return with another bid for Ajax’s Donny van de Beek, it seems Ceballos will probably be surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu next season – and Arsenals hierarchy are very aware of this.

Whilst the Gunners don’t have an official option to buy in Ceballos’ loan agreement, they do have something of a gentleman’s agreement in place. To put a long story short; if Real Madrid decide they are willing to let the player leave, Arsenal will be contacted and allowed to open discussions before anyone else has a chance. They can snap him up before any other clubs even know he is available.

Raul Sanllehi is keen to make a move for Ceballos even before his loan deal comes to a close, though, and has already held preliminary conversations with officials in Madrid regarding Ceballos’ pricetag. Sanllehi himself values the player at around £40million, but it’s thought that Real Madrid could ask for closer to £60million depending on performances over the coming season.

The player himself has recently spoke out in the media about his love for Arsenal and playing in England, and is currently in the process of moving his family over to London. He has also been trying really hard to learn the language, attending English classes religiously and binge watching ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Power’ during his downtime.

Personally, I don’t think you do any of that if you’re only planning a short stay.
