It promises to be an interesting clash when Arsenal and Sheffield United face off at the Emirates in what can be termed a grudge affair.

Premier League 2019/2020
Date: Saturday 18th, January
Kick-off: 16:00 pm
Venue: Emirates stadium
TV Channel: Sky Sports

Arsenal have fared better under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta, even though the results have not entirely been going their way and facing Sheffield who have so far, been impressive could be another tough task for them.

The Gunners have earned plenty of plaudits after recent wins over Manchester United and Leeds, but almost came unstuck at Selhurst Park last weekend. The point they eventually earned came at a price however, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sent off for a very bad challenge.

Lying in tenth on the standings at the moment, they still have a chance to finish the weekend in the top eight, and provisionally give themselves a massive boost of an European competition finish this season.

Surprisingly, Sheffield are equally targeting European football for next season and with manager Chris Wilder having put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the club, the faithfuls can feel the unity, commitment and focus around Bramall Lane can land them something really remarkable come the end of the season.

The Blades might have suffered back-to-back losses against Manchester City and Liverpool respectively but bounced back with a win over West Ham last time out and are worth backing to some extent for this one.

It was the visitors that dealt Arsenal their second loss of the league season, and while the Gunners will be wary of a repeat of such outcome, they have won three of the last four matches against Sheffield prior to that defeat, thrashing them 6-0 the last time they met at this venue in 2008.

Team news

Arsenal are without their skipper Aubameyang who saw red in the draw with Crystal Palace last weekend. Lucas Torreira was also forced off at half-time last weekend with a muscle injury, and is also unavailable for selection here.

Callum Chambers, Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin are still struggling with different degrees of injuries and will miss out.

Sheffield United

Goalkeepers Simon Moore and Michael Verrips are the only absentees for United.

Head to Head

This will mark the 116th meeting between these two sides, with Arsenal winning 48 to Sheffield’s 40. 27 of those clashes had ended as draws.

Match stats

There have been under 2.5 goals in four of Arsenal’s last five league games.

There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Sheffield United’s last six league games.

Team form

Arsenal have shown some improvements having lost once since Arteta took charge, and that was a narrow 2-1 against Chelsea. They started on the front foot last time out versus Palace before being pegged back. Arsenal’s last five league games(DDLWD)

Sheffield United are the surprise package of the league season, and are almost guaranteed of another year in the top flight following promotion. They beat West Ham 1-0 coming into this one. Sheffield’s last five league games(WDLLW)

Suggested bets

Arsenal are the bookmakers favourites for this one, even though they lie four places and four points behind Sheffield. The Blades have proved to be a compact side for much of this season, but I feel they Arsenal might just have enough to down their opposition after some measure of resistance. To jump on enough value from this game however, one might look at the Halftime/Fulltime option where backing a draw/Arsenal for 4/1 is a decent enough pick in a game which is equally likely to produce very few goals.
