On Sunday, Newcastle head to the Emirates in search of a first victory over Arsenal since 2010, a period which includes a streak of 14 straight wins for the hosts.

Premier League 2019/2020
Date: Sunday 16th, February
Kick-off: 17:30 pm
Venue: Emirates stadium
TV Channel: Sky Sports

Arsenal’s hopes of gate-crashing an European qualification spot for next season look to be hanging in the balance following a run of four consecutive draws in the Premier League, with as many as ten points now standing between them and the top four.

They did find Leeds and Bournemouth a bit more pliable during that run, grabbing a pair of FA Cup wins over the two but failed yet to break down Burnley before embarking on their warm-weather winter training in Dubai.

However, their dominance over their latest opponents is staggering: not since August 2011 have the Gunners dropped points when facing Newcastle, with the game ending goalless on the day.

Newcastle, unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions have not done badly for themselves, drawing three and winning once in their last four in the top flight.

Steve Bruce’s side have not won in any of their last four league games on the road coming into this one, losing two and drawing two.

Team news

Arsenal

Sead Kolasinac and Bukayo Saka are doubts for the Gunners while the quartet of Calum Chambers, Kieran Tierney, Reiss Nelson and Cédric Soares will miss out with injury.

Pablo Mari is in line to make his debut.

Newcastle

Bruce have a lengthy injury list to contend with, as no less than nine first teamers will miss this game.

Head to Head

These two sides have previously clashed in 183 competitive meetings, with Arsenal winning 78 to Newcastle’s 67. 38 games have ended as draws.

Match stats

There have been under 2.5 goals in the last three league matches between Arsenal and Newcastle at the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal have drawn their last four league games.

Team form

Arsenal are favourites to claim another victory here, and will hope to make the best of their chances unlike the clash with Burnley last time out. Arsenal’s last five league games (WDDDD)

Newcastle claimed credible draws versus Everton and Norwich coming into this game, and will look back at the recent awe-inspiring victory over Chelsea for inspiration. Newcastle’s last five league games (LDWDD)

Suggested bets

Arsenal should have enough to maintain their dominance over Newcastle, and are prized at 4/9 to come away with a straight win, while you can pick a HT/FT win for an even better 6/5. The Gunners will presumably go hell for leather at their home ground, and having had two days more to prepare for this game than their opposition should be able to pull it off.

The added advantage of having Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang available thus, is another market worth exploring. In ten league games in which Arsenal have opened the scoring this season, Aubameyang has helped himself to five of those. He is 23/10 to score the first goal and 8/11 to find the net anytime.
